Born 1950 in Bamako where he graduated from its High School, Diabaté first worked as a teacher until 1979, then, after enrolling into some makes training at the Malian National Film Centre, started his film career. He helmed his first short film Veillée à Bolongué in 1981. In 2003, he directed the documentary Le Mali En Marche, followed by a second short film Le Mali, pays au féminin. Da Monzon, the Conquest Of Samanyana (2011) was his first long narrative. It was rewarded for Best Décor in FESPACO 2011 and shown in LAFF 2012. Diabaté currently works at the Malian National Film Centre where he contribute with expertise in filmmaking to the new generation.
